Gary Shinfield: Biographical Statement

Gary Shinfield is an Australian artist, who graduated in 2004 with a Masters in Fine Arts/Printmaking from the College of Fine Arts UNSW, Sydney. In 1990 he received a Post Graduate Diploma in Printmaking from the Australian National University, ACT.

His practice focuses on relief printmaking and mixed media works on paper. Works made are often large scale, made in series and shown unframed. Images map journeys to site specific places in Australia and overseas. His approach is to respond to place with intuitive, gestural mark making, and to explore the processes of making. The print media used are woodcut, linocut and etching. Mixed media works on paper explore drawing and painting techniques on various handmade papers.

His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and acquired in public and private collections.  Some of the work featured in Rochford Street Review will be exhibited at Hawkesbury Regional Art Gallery in an exhibition titled Burnt into Memory. The exhibition runs from Friday 6 June to Sunday 17 August 2025 at the Deerubbin Centre, 1st Floor/300 George St, Windsor NSW 2756.
