Marietta Elliott-Kleerkoper

It is with regret and sadness that Rochford Street Review notes the death of  Marietta Elliott-Kleerkoper on 12 April 2019 . Marietta was a friend and contributor to the review and her insightful analysis of a wide range of writing will be missed. The following tribute is by her friend Dorothy Poulopoulos and was posted on the Melbourne Poets Union Face Book  page:

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that my beautiful friend and “Poetry Mother,” Marietta Elliott-Kleerkoper died yesterday. Marietta was a poet, editor, teacher, translator, philosopher and mentor to many of us in Melbourne and pioneered The Melbourne Poets Union Multilingual Event in 2001 as a way of providing a platform for Poets of all languages living in Australia and celebrating them. As a holocaust and cancer survivor, Marietta also encouraged many to “ write it” and was an inspiration to us all. Marietta passed away peacefully in the arms of her children, David and Hannah, at Rathdowne Place Wellness Centre in Carlton.
