Richard Clarke ‘Metempsychosis’ – Bloomsday Supplement 2026

The transmigration of souls
can never fill the holes
left in Leopold’s life
by his adulterous wife,
but far worse in his mind
is that he fails to find
in Daedalus a son
to take the place of one
he lost ten years before
June 16 of ’04.
So let us fill a room
and drink to Joyce’s Bloom,
and Molly and the rest,
whose creed is always ‘Yes’.

Richard Clarke is an ageing but emerging poet and writer whose lifelong attraction to the works of James Joyce, particularly Ulysses, was crowned by a walking tour of sites from the novel in Dublin 13 years ago.
