The Gardens Of Stone installation – Anne Graham

Professor Anne Graham’s research interests focus on an investigation of identity and space, she is particularly concerned with creativity and its role in the formation of identity. She creates portraits of places and people, their histories, their environments and their spaces. These portrait/ installations are intended to embrace many aspects of the subject but they are also intended to have universal applicability so that the viewer might feel that these works also resonate with their own life.

Anne Graham has exhibited in many curated exhibitions and created major site specific artworks nationally and internationally. She has worked extensively in China, Japan Sweden and France undertaking many commissions and residencies, including a residency from The Power Institute of Fine Arts at The Cite in Paris. She has recently exhibited work at the KMW Gallery, Sydney, The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Bathurst, Tamworth and Wollongong Regional Galleries and exhibited extensively with the local artists group Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains. Her most recent work The Gardens of Stone was exhibited at Penrith Regional Gallery November 2020–March 2021.

Her forthcoming installation The Line Of Road  will inhabit the length of a space  initially appearing in a disused industrial building in Lithgow. The dark structure will indicate the damage done to The Gardens of Stone through mining and climate change. The line of road  coming from the mouth of the structure and leading from dark to light will portray the transformation of the 2019 bushfire-ravaged Gardens of Stone landscape along the Bells Line of Road as the burnt bush transformed to new green shoots of life. Graham is collaborating with performance artist Wei Zen Ho whose performance will be filmed by Sean O’Keefe. It is intended that the film and the work will be exhibited together in a gallery situation.
